thanks for the candid update. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd vote for option #1. :)

hi all,
i just wanted to to give you an update on unity 3's development status.

as most of you probably know, Unity is built by two people (Colin Moock
 
and Derek Clayton), and it is not our full time job. we develop it as a
 
labor of love in our spare time. that situation accounts for both the 
slow timing of releases and also the uncertainty in the dev schedule.

over the summer of 2007, we had confident expected to release at least
 a 
solid Unity 3 beta this year. unfortunately, due to some unforeseen 
events, our development efforts have been minimal over the past couple 
of months.

we are now at a crossroads. we are considering two possibilities for
 the 
future development of unity 3.

1) build it full time
2) withdraw all claims for release dates, work on it whenever we can, 
and simply release a beta when it's ready.

the changes required to turn unity into our full-time gig are not 
trivial, but we are aggressively working to see if it's possible. we 
will attempt to work things out as soon as possible, and will post any 
official news here as soon as we can. if we do end up moving to a 
full-time model, the earliest we'd start would be january 2008.
