Flash is a poor choice for doing heavy numerical computation. With AS3/Flas=
h
9, it gets quite a bit better, but still, you are better off using somethin=
g
faster. Perl/PHP/other scripting languages are probably also poor choices.
If you want something that runs on the server, and is similar to
actionscript, you could try haXe, a new language created by the guy who
built mtasc (the open source AS2 compiler) -- http://haxe.org/ . Supposedly
it is an order of magnitude faster than flash or php (though I haven't trie=
