new sites are at the bottom of each category. moockmarks are also as a single netscape bookmarks file. (note: right now i'm leaving in dead links for historical purposes. one day i might overhaul everything and add an option to not view dead links.)
- sites w/ neat design
dhky
- really nice. experimental design for the web. creative and self-referential
glassdog
- this site about web design is notable graphically for its ability to incorporate the givens of html (you know, stuff like lots of straight lines from frames and tables, limited colour palettes, etc) into the graphical look of the site. navigational buttons and location identifiers do things that make you *think* they're breaking the rules. (added may 10, 1999)
digital thread
- a web design review site with really good taste. their japanese section is neat. they cover mainstream and indy design.
eyesaw
- an independent font designer's site. thanks to judith for this one...
mediumrare.net
- the company website for an interactive agency, mediumrare. unique pulldown-menu interface. good example of using components of the web medium itself as design elements.
terrarium
- killer dhtml and sweet design. one of the few success stories of the 4th+ generation browsers. (thanks judith...)
amaze limited
- based in liverpool, uk, this interactive agency produces elaborate but elegant interfaces in flash, html and shockwave for mostly experimental sites. nice tricks.
www.perfect.co.uk
- an astonishingly high quality collection of impressive sites.
mw01www : mo'wax recordings
- clean & sweet design plus creative understanding of the web. that and the beats are good too...imagine that...
www.lindkvist.com
- freelance designer in stockholm presents his portfolio and web explorations. wonderful web design aesthetic...
thomas popinger | photographer
- beautiful experimental media site by fork design's thomas popinger, from germany.
k10k: kaliber10000
- the labour of love of two euro designers who facilitate weekly digital design displays and create this design exhibition/journal/news centre. great graphpapery interface elements with an obvious love for html and the web.
artistica.org
- e-zine for online designers. the site itself is quite attractive, and they host/link to good content by guest designers in the gallery.
vir2l
- the cool stressed out lines & text look, done very nicely with flash and java.
subimage.com
- just some web designer's site...nice use of css etc.
-- 5 2 m m --
- just some neat photos and tasteful design
platform network
- a hip-hop/urban site for music, shopping & style. really slick raw-html design. lots of good tricks.
[ clan.dr3i ... v4.0 ]
- german new media agency.
goldtop
- emerald mosley, a uk web designer and artist offers her personal portfolio and other trinkets up for perusal. in the original version she incorporated elements of the web browser interface into her site's design. the update no longer sports that style, but is nice too.
suture
- jeremy tai's personal experiments in design and space, including photo journals from cities around the world. jeremy is one of the founders of fork.de (which is also a nice site).
three.oh (inspirational kingdom)
- three.oh covers the culture, trends, and style of graphic design, particularly on the internet. not only is the site nice to look at, it leads to many other interesting sites, and provides lots of discussion and interviews to inspire visual learning and thinking. (i just wish they would use relative css font sizing rather than tiny locked point sizes). visit with internet explorer. most of the content isn't available in netscape. see also www.threeoh.com/atmosphere/ for some nice interface work.
digitalthread
- a digital graphics & design ezine that provides monthly reviews of innovative or compelling web design (as far back as 1996). also posts info on conferences, web design companies, font shops, etc.
