MovieClipLoader class in Flash Player 7!

back on april 16, i started a petition for better preloading in flash. much to my delight, macromedia investigated the issue and decided to implement a fix! the MovieClipLoader class is now a bonafide part of flash player 7. for complete information on the new class, see: Help > ActionScript Dictionary > MovieClipLoader. the new class requires flash player 7.

for a flash player 6 approximation, see ralf bokelberg's MovieClipLoader class. (download the class here...)

my sincere thanks to macromedia for listening to the flash user base and responding so late in the product cycle. great work guys!

I've finished porting Ralf Bokelberg's LoaderClass to ActionScript 2. You can download it from: http://www.bryanledford.com/download/LoaderClass2.0.zip

Um... I went to Ralf Bokelberg's site to find out about LoaderClass and the document looked real good... Only if I can find the actual file... :(

Where am I supposed to download that class file???

Thank you... ;)

Andrew,

The 'gap' Graphex is referring to is the use of the MovieClipLoader class specifically. That class is only available in the Flash Player 7 or later.

Nice article on the MCL class:

Graphex, AS2 is supported in Flash Player 6.0.79.0, I'm not too sure what you mean by "gap"...

I'm rewriting Ralf Bokelberg's LoaderClass for AS 2.0 for those who, like myself prefer coding in AS 2.0, but still need to target the Flash 6 Player. I'm testing it out now, drop me a line if you want to help test, or are interested in the finished source.

So...isn't there a gap now for people writing AS 2.0 but targeting flash player 6?

I think that this 'gap' represents where we'll be for quite a while, given past flash player version penetration statistics.
